An accident on Saturday in St. John Parish, Louisiana, claimed the life of two and injured three others. As of now, police believe that excessive speed and poor weather conditions played a role in the crash.
The accident took place around 7 a.m. on U.S. Highway 61. At the time, a 22-year-old was behind the wheel of a 2009 Ford pickup truck, with three other passengers also inside of the truck. He was driving northbound on the highway, when he suddenly lost control of the pickup and ended up in the southbound lanes of the highway. His pickup ended up crashing into a 2004 Ford pickup truck.
The 35-year-old who was driving the 2004 Ford pickup was taken to University Hospital with injuries. The driver who caused the accident was also taken to the hospital, as was one of his passengers. One of the passengers was also pronounced dead at the scene, and another later died from their injuries at the hospital.
Now, looking back at the crash, the Louisiana State Patrol report that while weather conditions may have played a part, it's also believed the 22-year-old driver who caused the accident was speeding. If this is true, there is a good chance that had the driver been following all traffic laws, the accident could have been prevented.
Sadly, this accident is a reminder that all it takes is for one driver to briefly lose control of a vehicle to cause a truly devastating accident. However, in cases where it seems that negligence caused the accident, it's important to remember that for those who were either injured, or lost loved ones, it is sometimes possible to hold the driver who caused the accident liable.
