A Louisiana car accident cannot always be avoided, but when drivers fail to pay attention or otherwise show diligence on the road, tragic circumstances can result. Such is the case in a hit-and-run accident that occurred on April 29. A bicyclist was struck near the LA 182 bridge over the Atchafalaya River. After the car accident occurred, the driver left the scene.

An officer apparently witnessed the accident. He was approximately a block away from the scene when he happened to spot a vehicle swerving where the bicyclist was hit. After the dark sedan swerved, the police officer spotted sparks underneath the vehicle. The officer is unsure whether the vehicle he saw is the one that struck the bicyclist but police are seeking information from the public to find the driver.

The man was taken to the hospital and immediately listed in critical condition. The extent of his injuries is unknown, and his further medical condition was not initially known. The details surrounding this accident are sketchy, but at a minimum, the driver was legally obligated to stop and remain at the scene.

This accident seriously injured the Louisiana bicyclist, and his recovery time is unknown. When found, it is likely the person responsible will face some type of criminal charges for his or her part in this car accident, particularly because it appears to have been a hit-and-run accident. As police attempt to piece together exactly what occurred, including who did what and why, they will surely want to talk with the victim and any other witnesses in addition to searching for physical evidence of the frightening collision.
