Louisiana pedestrians can sometimes become the victims of a deadly car accident solely by virtue of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Such is the case for a Louisiana woman who was struck and killed while attempting to cross the street. The car accident happened during the late evening hours of a recent Saturday.
The 53-year-old woman was crossing the street when she was hit by what police believe is a gray or silver Saturn Vue. Police believe the vehicle was traveling at high speeds when it hit the woman. The impact of the accident caused her body to fly 30 feet before she landed, according to reports. The car then struck the woman again, running over her arm.
She died at the scene of the accident. Investigators believe the Saturn Vue may have sustained damage to its front end. Police in the New Orleans area are still searching for the person responsible for this tragic accident.
There is no indication the woman made any mistake when crossing the street. The fact that the driver left the scene of the accident and failed to render aid makes it likely that criminal charges will be pending once the responsible party is found. However, even if the person is criminally charged, it will likely not ease the grief this woman's family is feeling. A car accident can be a traumatic event for everyone involved, but when someone loses their life due to the possible negligence of another, it can make the tragedy even harder to bear.
