Louisiana residents who own a Honda may not have yet heard about a recall for certain 2012 Honda CR-V's and 2013 Acura ILX sedans. An apparent auto part defect is responsible for the recall and involves a door-locking mechanism. The automobile maker stated that if a vehicle occupant happens to be operating a door lock at the same time someone is moving one of the front interior door handles, the cable that connects the handle to the latch could loosen.

If that were to occur, the door may not close properly, causing it to come open during an accident or even while in the course of day-to-day driving. The current recall, scheduled to begin in August, will affect 172,837 vehicles. Honda has stated that dealers will replace the affected front door latches at no cost. In specific CR-V models, dealers may also replace the interior front door handles.

As of now, there have been no reports of injuries due to the apparently defective parts. Fortunately, the identified auto part defect appears to have been caught in advance, especially with the 2013 Acura models. However, some people may have been affected by this recall already and not have realized it.

If someone was injured due to this auto part defect in Louisiana, the party may have the opportunity to seek compensation. Any time someone makes such a large purchase, they should not have to worry about the potential of injury or death due to defects in the manufacturing process or human error. Anyone affected by such a case where negligence is a factor retains the right to seek reimbursement for any damages claimed through the filing of a product liability lawsuit in Louisiana courts.
