A family is mourning the loss of a loved one after a Louisiana woman passed away from injuries she sustained in an accident. The car accident occurred in East Baton Rouge Parish just after 10 a.m. on a July morning. Authorities are still investigating this deadly crash.
Initial reports indicate a 30-year-old man from Greenwell Springs was northbound on LA 409 when his vehicle crossed over into oncoming traffic. His pickup truck struck an oncoming Toyota Corolla. The 48-year-old female driver, a Clinton resident, died at the scene of the accident.
A blood sample from the victim has been submitted to the state crime lab to be chemically analyzed. The pickup driver also gave a voluntary breath sample, but there was no alcohol detected in his system. A urine sample from him provided has also been sent for analysis. The pickup driver was wearing his seat belt, but it is unknown if the woman was restrained properly or if it would have made any difference under these particular circumstances. At this time, there have been no criminal charges filed, but there could be once the accident investigation is completed.
Family and friends are affected any time a fatal car accident happens. These types of accidents can be hard to fathom, and families want to know the reasons why they occurred. For this Louisiana car accident, the reasons are still unknown. Whether criminal charges will be leveled against the driver is unknown at this time; however, the family could pursue further legal action against the man who was part of this accident, if the evidence documents that he acted negligently in a manner that caused or contributed to the woman's death. For now, hopefully the completion of the accident report will answer this family's questions and help them decide what, if any, action they wish to take.
