An auto part defect may affect Louisiana owners of 2002-2006 Honda CR-V vehicles. Honda Motor Company is recalling the vehicles due to a faulty switch in the driver's side door. The auto part defect could cause the switch to melt within the door and start a fire.
Over a quarter-million vehicles are affected by the recall. The company has stated that liquids could enter an open window and potentially cause damage to the door's master power switch. If this scenario occurs, there is a potential for a fire hazard because the switch could become overheated and melt. The NHTSA has advised owners of the affected vehicles to park their cars outside until they have maintenance performed, to prevent damage to homes or garages. However, Honda has stated that outside parking isn't necessary.
Any customer concerned about damage to the affected switches can request a dealership to inspect their vehicle. The majority of vehicles may only require a cover plate installed which would prevent any liquid from entering the switch area. Anyone owning the affected models should be contacted within the next month. Any repairs to the vehicle concerning the recall will be performed free of charge.
This is Honda's third recall within the last two weeks. They have recalled Civic compact cars, Pilot SUV's and will also issue a recall for over a half million Accord vehicles. The company has stated no injuries have been reported due to the CR-V recall, but there have been four fires. Any Louisiana resident who has been injured by such a product should ensure that they are aware of their legal rights when it comes to auto part defects. Every consumer has the right to safety when driving, and consumers who suffered injuries due to faulty workmanship could pursue civil action.
