Police are investigating the cause of a crash that took the life of a local resident early on the morning of April 10. Louisiana State Police have reported that a Garyville woman was tragically killed in a car accident when a tractor trailer collided with her vehicle sometime around 4:40 a.m. The investigation is ongoing at this time.

The woman was apparently exiting a private parking area and heading for Airline Highway when a southbound tractor trailer driven by a Louisiana man struck the woman's sport coupe on the driver's side. Authorities responding to the scene pronounced her dead on site. There has been no word as to whether the driver of the tractor trailer was injured in the crash.

Police are currently uncertain as to what caused the accident to occur. They currently do not suspect the truck driver of being impaired, though they arranged toxicology scans on the deceased woman to determine if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash. It is unknown whether she was wearing a safety restraint at the time of the accident.

The next-of-kin of the deceased woman will surely be interested in the outcome of the official investigation. If any of the gathered evidence suggests the truck driver was negligent in a manner that contributed to the fatal car accident, the victim's family may elect to pursue claims for monetary damages against the trucker and his employer. To prevail, however, they will need to prove in a civil court that the trucker's actions were such that liability should attach for some or all of the damages suffered in the fatal car accident.
